CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bnx2x: fix double free in bnx2x_init_firmware() error path
bnx2x_init_firmware() frees bp->init_ops, bp->init_data and
bp->init_ops_offsets in its error path without setting them to NULL.
The cleanup function bnx2x_release_firmware() frees the same three
pointers unconditionally, so if init_firmware fails and
release_firmware is later called (e.g. from __bnx2x_remove or through
the function state machine), all three are freed a second time.
Set each pointer to NULL after kfree() in the error path so that the
subsequent kfree(NULL) in bnx2x_release_firmware() is a safe no-op. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ovl: fix double end_creating() on the casefold-mismatch path
ovl_create_real() releases the new dentry twice when the casefold
consistency check fails. The S_IFDIR branch calls end_creating() and
sets err, then falls through to the common out: label which calls
end_creating() on the same dentry again:
case S_IFDIR:
newdentry = ovl_do_mkdir(ofs, dir, newdentry, attr->mode);
err = PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO(newdentry);
if (!err && ofs->casefold != ovl_dentry_casefolded(newdentry)) {
pr_warn_ratelimited(...);
end_creating(newdentry); /* first */
err = -EINVAL;
}
break;
...
if (err)
goto out;
...
out:
if (err) {
end_creating(newdentry); /* second, same dentry */
return ERR_PTR(err);
}
end_creating() is end_dirop(), which does inode_unlock() on the parent
and dput() on the dentry, so the parent directory's i_rwsem is unlocked
twice and the dentry is put twice. The second unlock releases a lock
that is not held, which is what wedges every later creation under that
parent, and the second dput() drops a reference that was never taken.
The branch was added by commit dfc7da402ccc ("ovl: Check for casefold
consistency when creating new dentries") as a bare dput(), which already
released the reference twice; commit fe497f0759e0 ("VFS: change
vfs_mkdir() to unlock on failure.") converted both sites to
end_creating(), adding the double unlock.
This is reachable by an unprivileged user. The casefold consistency of
the layers is validated at mount time in ovl_parse_layer(), and again on
every lookup in ovl_lookup_single(), but ofs->workdir is the internal
"work" subdirectory created inside the user-supplied workdir, and that
subdirectory is not re-checked. Marking it casefolded after the mount
therefore makes every ovl_create_temp() inherit the wrong state - and
that path reaches ovl_create_real() through ovl_start_creating_temp(),
which uses start_creating() with a generated name and so never runs the
lookup-time check.
unshare -Urm
mount -t tmpfs -o casefold=utf8-12.1.0 tmpfs mnt
mkdir -p mnt/lower/d mnt/upper mnt/work mnt/merged
mount -t overlay ovl -o lowerdir=mnt/lower,\
upperdir=mnt/upper,workdir=mnt/work mnt/merged
chattr +F mnt/work/work
mkdir mnt/merged/d/sub # directory copy-up
overlayfs: wrong inherited casefold (work/#5)
and the next copy-up blocks forever on the parent's i_rwsem:
mkdir D start_creating+0x65/0xb0

Drop the end_creating() from the branch and let out: own the cleanup,
which is what every other error path in this function already does. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
RDMA/vmw_pvrdma: Fix double free on pvrdma_alloc_ucontext() error path
Sashiko points out that pvrdma_uar_free() is already called within
pvrdma_dealloc_ucontext(), so calling it before triggers a double free. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
staging: media: ipu7: fix double-free and use-after-free in error paths
In both ipu7_isys_init() and ipu7_psys_init(), pdata is allocated and
then passed to ipu7_bus_initialize_device(), which stores it in
adev->pdata. The ipu7_bus_release() function frees adev->pdata when the
device's reference count drops to zero.
Two error paths incorrectly call kfree(pdata) after the device teardown
has already freed it:
1. When ipu7_mmu_init() fails: put_device() is called, which drops the
reference count to zero and triggers ipu7_bus_release() ->
kfree(pdata). The subsequent kfree(pdata) is a double-free.
2. When ipu7_bus_add_device() fails: it calls auxiliary_device_uninit()
internally, which calls put_device() -> ipu7_bus_release() ->
kfree(pdata). The subsequent kfree(pdata) is again a double-free.
Note that the kfree(pdata) when ipu7_bus_initialize_device() itself
fails is correct, because in that case auxiliary_device_init() failed
and the release function was never set up, so pdata must be freed
manually.
Additionally, the error code was not saved before calling put_device(),
causing ERR_CAST() to dereference the already-freed adev pointer when
constructing the return value. Fix this by saving the error from
dev_err_probe() before put_device() and returning ERR_PTR() instead.
Remove the redundant kfree(pdata) calls and fix the use-after-free in
the return values of the two affected error paths. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: shaper: reject duplicate leaves in GROUP request
net_shaper_nl_group_doit() does not deduplicate NET_SHAPER_A_LEAVES
entries. When userspace supplies the same leaf handle twice, the same
old-parent pointer lands twice in old_nodes[]. The cleanup loop double
frees the parent. Of course the same parent may still be in old_nodes[]
twice if we are moving multiple of its leaves.
Note that this patch also implicitly fixes the fact that the
i >= leaves_count path forgets to set ret. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
KVM: arm64: vgic: Avoid double-deactivate of IRQs in the nested context
In the nested state, the physical interrupt has already been
deactivated through the HW bit in the LR. The extra deactivation
would be harmless but can hit an errata case on AmpereOne, so
avoid it here.
On AmpereOne, deactivating a physical interrupt through
ICC_DIR_EL1 or ICC_EOIR1_EL1 (depending on EOImode) which is not
active, but is the highest priority pending interrupt causes the
cpu to lose the interrupt pending state and also prevents the
delivery of future interrupts. |
| A vulnerability was determined in valkey-io valkey 9.1.0. Impacted is the function moduleTimerHandler of the file src/module.c of the component Module Timer Subsystem. This manipulation causes double free. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploit has been publicly disclosed and may be utilized. Patch name: b349fe2821e3998534b1454c1b64a478daf8c6b7. To fix this issue, it is recommended to deploy a patch. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
fs/resctrl: Fix double-add of pseudo-locked region's RMID to free list
A pseudo-locked group's RMID is freed when it is created. On unmount
rmdir_all_sub() unconditionally frees all RMID of all groups, resulting
in a double-free of the pseudo-locked group's RMID. The consequence of this
is that the original free results in the pseudo-locked group's RMID being
added to the rmid_free_lru linked list and the second free then attempts
to add the same RMID entry to the rmid_free_lru again.
Do not double-free a pseudo-locked group's RMID. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
KVM: arm64: vgic: Check the interrupt is still ours before migrating it
vgic_prune_ap_list() drops both ap_list_lock and irq_lock while migrating
an interrupt to another vCPU. After reacquiring the locks it only checks
that the affinity is unchanged (target_vcpu == vgic_target_oracle(irq))
before moving the interrupt, which assumes that an interrupt whose affinity
is preserved is still queued on this vCPU's ap_list.
That assumption no longer holds if the interrupt is taken off the ap_list
while the locks are dropped. vgic_flush_pending_lpis() removes the
interrupt from the list and sets irq->vcpu to NULL, but leaves
enabled/pending/target_vcpu untouched. As the interrupt is still enabled
and pending, vgic_target_oracle() returns the same target_vcpu, so the
affinity check passes and list_del() is run a second time on an entry that
has already been removed.
Also check that the interrupt is still assigned to this vCPU
(irq->vcpu == vcpu) before moving it. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: sungem: fix probe error cleanup
gem_init_one() calls gem_remove_one() when register_netdev() fails.
gem_remove_one() unregisters and frees resources owned by the net_device,
including the DMA block, MMIO mapping, PCI regions, and the net_device
itself. gem_init_one() then falls through to its own cleanup labels and
frees the same resources again.
Keep the register_netdev() error path in gem_init_one(): clear drvdata so
PM/remove paths do not see a half-registered device, remove the NAPI
instance added during probe, and let the existing cleanup labels release
the resources once.
The issue was found by a local static-analysis checker for probe error
paths. The reported path was manually inspected before sending this fix.
Compile-tested with CONFIG_SUNGEM=y. Runtime testing was not performed
because no sungem hardware is available. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ALSA: ump: fix double free of out_cvts on rawmidi error
snd_ump_attach_legacy_rawmidi() allocates the legacy conversion array
ump->out_cvts and, on the snd_rawmidi_new() error path, frees it with
kfree() but leaves ump->out_cvts pointing at the freed memory. When the
endpoint is later torn down, snd_ump_endpoint_free() frees ump->out_cvts
a second time, resulting in a double free.
The host snd-usb-audio driver attaches the legacy rawmidi for any USB
MIDI 2.0 (UMP) device, so a device that makes snd_rawmidi_new() fail
reaches this path on enumeration.
Clear ump->out_cvts after freeing it on the error path so it is not
freed again during teardown.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/xe/hw_engine: Fix double-free of managed BO in error path
The error path in hw_engine_init() explicitly frees a BO allocated
with xe_managed_bo_create_pin_map() via xe_bo_unpin_map_no_vm().
Since the managed BO already has a devm cleanup action registered,
this causes a double-free when devm unwinds during probe failure.
Remove the explicit free and let devm handle it, consistent with
all other xe_managed_bo_create_pin_map() callers.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
sunrpc: harden rq_procinfo lifecycle to prevent double-free
The svc_release_rqst() function executes the callback inside
rqstp->rq_procinfo->pc_release. However, if a worker thread begins
processing a new request and encounters an early error path (e.g.,
unsupported protocol, short frame, or bad auth) before a valid
rq_procinfo is installed, a stale release hook can be re-triggered
against reused state from the previous RPC, resulting in a double-free
or use-after-free vulnerability.
Harden the lifecycle of rq_procinfo by:
1. Ensuring svc_release_rqst() always clears rq_procinfo after the
optional pc_release() call, regardless of whether the hook exists.
2. Explicitly clearing rq_procinfo at request entry in svc_process()
before any early decode or drop paths.
3. Ensuring svc_process_bc() does the same at backchannel entry.
This guarantees that error flows will not encounter a non-NULL stale
rq_procinfo pointer when there is nothing to release. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
rxrpc: Don't move a peeked OOB message onto the pending queue
rxrpc_recvmsg_oob() takes a received oob message off recvmsg_oobq and,
if a response is needed, moves it onto the pending_oobq tree. However,
only the unlink from recvmsg_oobq is guarded by MSG_PEEK; the move onto
pending_oobq always runs.
As a result, reading a challenge with MSG_PEEK leaves the skb on
recvmsg_oobq while also adding it to pending_oobq. Since struct
sk_buff's rbnode shares storage with its next and prev pointers,
rb_insert_color() overwrites the list linkage, and the skb, which holds
a single reference, becomes reachable from both queues at once.
When the socket is closed both queues are drained in turn. While
draining recvmsg_oobq, __skb_unlink() follows the next and prev
pointers that rbnode has overwritten and writes to a bad address. Also,
as the skb holds a single reference but is freed from each queue, both
the skb and the connection reference it holds are released twice. This
leads to memory corruption and to a use-after-free caused by the
connection refcount underflow.
MSG_PEEK does not consume the message from the queue, so only unlink it
from recvmsg_oobq and then move it onto pending_oobq or free it when
the message is actually consumed. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
xfrm: nat_keepalive: avoid double free on send error
nat_keepalive_send() frees the keepalive skb whenever the IPv4 or IPv6
send helper reports an error.
That cleanup is only correct before the skb is handed to the output
path. Once ip_build_and_send_pkt() or ip6_xmit() takes ownership, the
networking stack may already have consumed the skb before returning an
error, so freeing it again is unsafe.
Handle the pre-handoff failure cases inside nat_keepalive_send_ipv4()
and nat_keepalive_send_ipv6(), where the caller still owns the skb, and
keep nat_keepalive_send() responsible only for family dispatch and the
unsupported-family cleanup path. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
staging: most: video: avoid double free on video register failure
comp_register_videodev() allocates a video_device with
video_device_alloc() and releases it if video_register_device() fails.
This can double free the video_device when __video_register_device()
reaches device_register() and that call fails:
video_register_device()
-> __video_register_device()
-> device_register() fails
-> put_device(&vdev->dev)
-> v4l2_device_release()
-> vdev->release(vdev)
-> video_device_release(vdev)
comp_register_videodev()
-> video_device_release(mdev->vdev)
Use video_device_release_empty() while registering the device so that
registration failure paths do not free mdev->vdev through vdev->release().
comp_register_videodev() then releases mdev->vdev exactly once on failure.
Restore video_device_release() after successful registration so the
registered device keeps its normal lifetime handling.

dmaengine: dma-axi-dmac: Properly free struct axi_dmac_desc

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
PCI: endpoint: pci-ep-msi: Fix error unwind and prevent double alloc
pci_epf_alloc_doorbell() stores the allocated doorbell message array in
epf->db_msg/epf->num_db before requesting MSI vectors. If MSI allocation
fails, the array is freed but the EPF state may still point to freed
memory.
Clear epf->db_msg and epf->num_db on the MSI allocation failure path so
that later cleanup cannot double-free the array and callers can retry
allocation.
Also return -EBUSY when doorbells have already been allocated to prevent
leaking or overwriting an existing allocation. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: gadget: net2280: Fix double free in probe error path
usb_initialize_gadget() installs gadget_release() as the release
callback for the embedded gadget device. The struct net2280 instance is
therefore released through gadget_release() when the gadget device's last
reference is dropped.
The probe error path calls net2280_remove(), which tears down the
partially initialized device and drops the gadget reference with
usb_put_gadget(). Calling kfree(dev) afterwards can free the same object
again.
Drop the explicit kfree() and let the gadget device release callback
handle the final free. This issue was found by a static analysis tool
I am developing. |

tracing: Do not call map->ops->elt_free() if elt_alloc() fails
In paths where tracing_map_elt_alloc() failed to allocate objects,
the map->ops->elt_alloc() call was never successful. In this case,
map->ops->elt_free() should not be called. |
